Thursday, 20 December 2012 16:37
Avian Influenza (bird flu) has been confirmed in Dharke, a highway town in Dhading district. Laboratory examination of suspected chicken samples confirmed bird flu outbreak in the area, officials at the Central Veterinary Laboratory (CVL) said.

Samples of dead chickens were examined by the laboratory following death of hundreds of chicken in the area.

A team led by CVL's veterinary experts had safely dumped 700 chicken from a farm on Wednesday and the team will continue active surveillance for some time.

Few days earlier, farmers in Dharke had seized two Indian containers carrying "illegally imported" chicken for the KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) outlet in Kathmandu. The containers were released a couple of days later despite their protest. nepalnews.com
